There is a very strong reason why Maruti Suzuki is considered to be such a leader in the automotive market in India. Almost all of the segments in India are presently ruled by cars made by this Indo-Japanese company.
Presently, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno rules the pack of Indian hatchbacks that has popular cars like Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz. On the other hand, the Dzire compact sedan has been ruling the segment for a very long time. Moreover, with the recent update, the Dzire is expected to keep up this reputation.
In case you are wondering which one of the two is a better option for you, let’s get down and compare them and see how they fare against each other.
The new generation of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire looks like a complete overhaul from the previous generation. If you liked how the old generation of Dzire was designed, you will absolutely love the new design. The overall design looks a little more urban and aggressive than the previous generation model. It gets new projector headlamps and DRLs on the headlamps cluster.
On the inside, the new Dzire brings about a host of new features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The steering wheel on the top-end variant is wrapped in leather as well.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a completely new design. The front grille of the Baleno looks very different than what the company normally designs. Despite being a hatchback, the Baleno has a longer wheelbase than the Dzire and has the same length, which means it is more comfortable and spacious than the compact sedan. The Baleno is also the first car in India to offer Apple CarPlay on its touchscreen infotainment system. If you look at the interior setting and the dashboard, you will feel that the Baleno has a far better designed than the Dzire.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is offered in both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre petrol engine makes a maximum power of 83 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The 1.3-litre diesel engine makes the highest power of 74 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm.
The Baleno hatchback too is given the same set of engines and the power deliverance reaches similar numbers. However, the Baleno is known to have a more refined gearbox for the CVT (common variable transmission).
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the latest offering from the company and hence, is expected to get more features over the hatchback. However, the Baleno, despite being around two years older than the Dzire, is no less in terms of features. The mechanism in both the cars is very similar. But what is different is the performance on the road, in which the Baleno takes over quite comfortably.
Moreover, the price of the Baleno is marginally lesser than the Dzire, which makes it a more obvious choice among the two. The Baleno starts at a price of Rs. 5.28 lakhs while the Dzire starts at Rs. 5.45 lakhs.
